I've since gone on to create a creative project with my wife in the Elder Scrolls Online universe. In never winter 2 i would go on to help write a college professor named Brian Lewbowski's nwn 2 module. He shared a torch not dying script and I shared a poem i had written for his bard. I also met and befriended the creator Zoltan Gonda. I used things like lylac's script writer i think it was called. The boards always seemed to be, I'm not sure how to put this other than, enthusiastic.

"get caught up with what lies within the long march mountains, or worse caught in the truth." We bonded writing a story together set in the realm of Estagund, a module I was creating for my favorite game Neverwinter nights. Neverwinter nights I played countless hours while i was courting my wife. I am happily married for 14 years, i met my wife casually on guild wars 1. And I am curious about any stories others here have!Īlso, one newer point of information that I don't think I've really shared - I still use the Neverwinter Nights toolset for prototyping game experiences! Especially with the Enhanced Edition upgrades, because I'm comfortable with the scripting language, I find it fast, efficient, and useful if I need to mock up a "narrative-based" experience. The longevity of the community is mind boggling - I never would have predicted that folks would still be playing Neverwinter back when we were developing it.Īnyways instead of me attempting to remember things, feel free to ask me anything about Neverwinter Nights (I also worked on both expansions) and I'll do my best to answer, if I can remember. And it has been 20 years! Which is amazing and terrifying. Back in the day I had many Neverwinter Nights stories (it was my second game as a designer at BioWare) but I think I have already spilled the more interesting ones over the years in various interviews and blog posts. So, what's your Neverwinter Nights story? I bet most people have more to tell than I do. What was confusing to me were the countless build opti, ons, where you basically needed a manual to make the most of your character, and also there are so many unplayed games out there and so little time to experience them all. I liked to live the story, but that's done now. It's not a game I would replay 100 times, in fact I tried and dropped a second playthrough, but I can still see and appreciate the value of it. It was my first RPG after the Baldur's Gate series, therefore I didn't mind the rather clunky graphics.

I still remember how the development of the last chapter around Aribeth and the end shocked, gripped and infuriated me. I rediscovered Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition in 2019, where I had quite a bit of fun with a roleplayed paladin minimal-reload playthrough (shouting out to here!) and experienced the story of the original campaign. I only remember making a character on my friend's PC, a half-elf called Rhiannon Silverleaf, and never continued. He even borrowed me his CDs, but unfortunately I was a student back then and only had a very, very old PC inherited from someone else, and it didn't run on it. I remember a friend had told me about Neverwinter Nights back in the days when I finished Baldur's Gate 2 and was hungry for more. To honour this long history, would someone maybe like to share their oldest or fondest memories of and experiences with the game?

Much of the ongoing success of this game was and is because of the large community of people who build and maintain custom modules and persistent worlds, and the release of the enhanced edition in 2018. As has already pointed out here, Neverwinter Nights was released 20 years ago and is celebrating its anniversary today.
